M1991: FIFTEEN YEARS OF CRAFTSMANSHIP, NOW ALSO ON THE ROAD

M1991 is an artisan pizzeria and gelateria in Ancona with over fifteen years of history. We spoke with Riccardo, co-owner alongside his brother, about how the food truck idea came about, what it means to bring an established product outside its home base, and that feeling of seeing something that once existed only in your head become real.

M1991 started as a pizzeria. Fifteen years of artisan work, carefully selected ingredients, no shortcuts. Then, with the same philosophy, came the gelateria: gelato made only with real ingredients, no compromises. Riccardo and his brother built their identity around one simple, precise principle: artisan quality in everything that leaves their hands.
A solid, rooted project with a loyal customer base. And yet, as anyone in retail knows: there is always something to renew, expand, explore. As Riccardo puts it, "in the machinery, you always have to keep doing something".

THE IDEA: GOING TO THE AUDIENCE, INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR IT
The spark came from observing the local area. Around Ancona there is no shortage of fairs, local festivals, events. Moments when the city comes alive, people are out, but the fixed location stays put. Riccardo asked himself a direct question: why give up that slice of the market?
The food truck was born from that - not as an alternative to the main business, but as an extension. A way to bring M1991’s product where the movement is: fairs, weddings, private events. Going to the people, getting known beyond the local neighbourhood, building new points of contact with the public.

THE CHOICE: A PRODUCT BEYOND THE ORDINARY
The search for the vehicle started on social media. Riccardo and his brother began looking at trucks and vans until they found StreetFoody. A phone call, then a visit to the company. It was during the visit to the production facility that the decision became clear: what they saw was different from the usual cart or hastily fitted-out van.
Behind each vehicle there is a project - of layout, image, visual impact. You can see that every detail has been thought through, not improvised. "We saw that it was a quality product, different. There was a study behind it, of marketing, of image, and we trusted it," says Riccardo.

THE PROCESS: TWO MONTHS FROM FIRST IDEA TO DELIVERY
What stands out most, looking back, is the speed. From the start of the collaboration to the delivery of the vehicle: around two months. The team presented the available options, recommended the one best suited to M1991’s project, and the process closed smoothly, without any hitches.
For anyone running an existing business who cannot afford to wait months, this is no small thing. Time is part of the value.

THE MOMENT OF DELIVERY
Opening the truck’s doors for the first time is a moment Riccardo describes simply: "that project we had in mind, which before was just an image, you actually see it realised in front of you. A great feeling." What for months had remained an abstract idea was suddenly there - real and working.

M1991 built its reputation on artisan quality, one product at a time. The food truck does not change that philosophy - it puts it in motion. Riccardo and his brother simply decided not to wait for the public to come to them. They went to find it.
