international-day-of-cooperatives-when-inclusion-hits-the-road
On July 5, 2025, we celebrate the International Day of Cooperatives, an important occasion to recognize organizations that promote a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable economy. Among them, social cooperatives play a crucial role by offering job opportunities and pathways to growth for people in vulnerable situations.
At the heart of these initiatives lies a clear vision: to create genuine inclusion through real, hands-on experiences of training, autonomy, and participation. In this context, innovative and versatile tools such as food trucks are increasingly proving to be mobile spaces for social change, blending impact and entrepreneurship.
THE FOOD TRUCK AS AN ENGINE OF INCLUSION
The mobile and accessible nature of food trucks makes them ideal for social projects—not just as working vehicles, but as symbolic tools that reach people where they live and gather. For social cooperatives, this translates into a resource capable of generating value in many directions.
Launching a business on wheels means offering real job opportunities in dynamic, stimulating environments that encourage public interaction. It means building professional training paths, where participants develop practical skills along with relational, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities. It also means revitalizing urban spaces, often neglected or marginalized, by bringing life, flavor, and relationships to squares, neighborhoods, and communities in need of regeneration. Lastly, thanks to their low costs and flexibility, food trucks are a sustainable solution that facilitates direct engagement and awareness-raising with the public.
WHEN COMMITMENT HITS THE ROAD
StreetFoody has proudly supported events and projects where mobility meets social impact, proving just how powerful a vehicle can become as an agent of change.
During the G7 on Inclusion and Disability in Assisi and the Jubilee of the Disabled in Rome, the StreetFoody team took part with enthusiasm—offering not only our food trucks but also active and heartfelt support. These experiences demonstrate how accessibility, combined with the power of human connection, can lead to real opportunities for expression and inclusion for all.
COOPERATIVA RINASCITA: A PROJECT FOR THE FUTURE
Among our most recent partnerships, one stands out as a powerful example of StreetFoody’s mission: the collaboration with Cooperativa Sociale Rinascita, which has long been committed to the work inclusion of migrants and refugees. With the technical and design support of StreetFoody, two food trucks were developed that combine food, hospitality, and the enhancement of each participant’s skills.
As Laura Megli, Head of Social Projects at StreetFoody, explains: "A food truck is more than just a vehicle—it’s an opportunity for transformation."
Rinascita’s mission is clear: to share its message in public spaces, at events, and through initiatives—believing that mobile businesses like food trucks can be powerful tools for lasting community impact and improving lives.
BUILDING NEW PATHS TOGETHER
On this day dedicated to cooperatives, StreetFoody celebrates those who choose inclusion and responsibility as their guiding principles. We believe that the combination of social projects and mobile solutions can open up new, concrete, and accessible roads for everyone.
